I think this is hands down the best recording of Dvorak's Slavonic Dances available, and that by far. And I have 4 different CD recordings and have listened to several more, including the Szell/Cleveland one, Kubelik/Bayerischen and Mackerras/Czech Philharmonic, still this one has got the spirit the others haven't, and exactly the perfect tempo on each dance/5(10).

This fabulous-sounding performance of Dvorák's delicious Slavonic Dances is probably the finest version to come from an American orchestra since George Szell's fabled Cleveland recordings on Sony. Under Levi, the Atlantans have achieved a remarkable degree of polish and elegance--a truly burnished, central-European sound/5(6).

The Slavonic Dances (Czech: Slovanské tance) are a series of 16 orchestral pieces composed by Antonín Dvořák in 18and published in two sets as Op. 46 and Op. 72 respectively. Originally written for piano four hands, the Slavonic Dances were inspired by Johannes Brahms's own Hungarian Dances and were orchestrated at the request of Dvořák's publisher soon after composition.

Oct 25,  · It is believed that Dvorak invented his own melodies and set them to traditional Slavonic dance rhythms. However, I can easily recognize a Polish folk tune (Kukuleczka kuka) in the first dance. I was also wondering if there is more background available on the origin of the dances or maybe even recordings and reconstructions of what they sound like.
